To all members of St. Thomas

Nominating season for new Vestry members and 2023 Diocesan Convention
Delegates is open!

Could you or a member of our church suggested by you be the next
member of Vestry?

The Vestry’s work is to support the mission and ministry of St. Thomas
Episcopal Church. Together with the Rector and the staff, you would share
responsibility for the facilities, finances and the health of our parish. The
volunteer job is challenging, rewarding and transforming as you grow closer
to God’s work and to one another in your shared duties. Meetings are normally the third Tuesday of each month, although that can be reviewed once a new
Vestry is elected. A Vestry Retreat is held each year in the spring. There are
also occasional committee assignments. The term is three years, and there are
three seats open for nomination and election.

Is it your turn to attend and vote at Diocesan Convention?
As a delegate to Diocesan Convention you would commit to attending the
annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho, held in November.
Preparatory meetings are held at both the parish and deanery levels a few
weeks ahead of Convention. As a delegate you forge relationships with
delegates from across the diocese, vote on the diocesan budget and on
proposed resolutions and canonical changes, and elect representatives for
positions at the deanery, diocesan and national levels. A term is one year.
There are six seats open for delegate and four seats open for alternate
delegate. The Rector, Senior Warden and Junior Warden always attend as
appointed delegates.

The Nominating Committee invites you to raise up new leadership for
the church, which may be yourself or someone in the church whom you
know. Vestry members and delegates must be confirmed communicants in
good standing at St. Thomas Church*. As a suggested vestry member, you
may be invited to answer a questionnaire that will help us to know you.
*A confirmed communicant in good standing is one who has been baptized
and confirmed, who “attends worship regularly, unless for a good cause
prevented, and who works, prays and gives for the spread of the Kingdom
of God” (Constitution and Canons, 2012). Confirmation may be in any
Christian denomination. The Nominating Committee and the Rector
encourage nominees to record their Confirmations in St. Thomas’ church
records and/or be Received into the Episcopal Church.
